UL Lafayette students and faculty members are engaged in many high-profile research projects. The University is working with Swiftships Shipbuilders, Inc., to develop a military boat capable of autonomous navigation, for instance. In 2007, UL Lafayette students were the first at a Louisiana university to design and build a working satellite that was launched into space. They sent another into orbit in 2013.
